The Joseph Marinello Hope Fund was established to honor the memory of Joseph Marinello, a compassionate son, brother, friend, and Eagle Scout whose life was cut short on August, 23, 2012 at the age of 19. Joseph broke his wrist snowboarding and was prescribed prescription painkillers that eventually led to experimentation and addiction. Addiction took over his life quickly and he tried hard to overcome it but eventually lost his battle. Being an Eagle Scout, he was always helping others. Joseph's parents established the fund at Student Assistance Services to assist parents in getting their teen or young adult the help needed. Their hope is that Westchester parents will be able to quickly get information to support and assist them in intervening in their child's drug use. They know that Joseph would be happy if he could help even one person overcome addiction.
Parents of adolescents and young adults (under 21) can contact Student Assistance Services at 914-332-1300 between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday to speak to an experienced professional for information and consultation to determine strategies for preventing the escalation of drug use, discuss treatment options, and/or to schedule an appointment. Appointments are available for more in depth consultation and to discuss a Planned Intervention to facilitate their teen or young adult's entering treatment.
Consultation for parents will help parents make informed decisions on steps to take with their child. The Planned Intervention will help the family motivate the teen or young adult to enter treatment. All staff providing consultation and interventionists are experienced NY State Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW), Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselors (CASAC), and Credentialed Prevention Professionals (CPP) with specialized training in conducting Planned Interventions.
All calls are confidential and all services are provided at no cost to the family.
